Content, Content, Content, it’s what makes your business go round. BUT it can be such a drain on your life if you don’t know what you're doing.
I can remember a time where I would sit down to “work” but end up staring at my screen fooooooorrrrevvvvveeeer and nothing got done. I literally couldn’t come up with things to share to save my life. One time I created an opt-in for a freebie and on the thank you page I said “you’ll be hearing from me each week with tips and tricks to keep moving forward” …. except I went almost 5 months before reaching out to those people :O like waaaahhhhhat?
*insert drop head, hand on face, head shake*
To sit down and write stuff to share use to literally eat away at my soul. I had no idea what I wanted to share and had no idea how I was supposed to post on multiple social media platforms when I couldn’t even follow up with my e-mail list. What I realized was that I wasn’t “Planning” my content, I was just winging it.
BIG MISTAKE
When I realized that I needed to plan out my content I no longer wasted so much time staring at a blank screen! As i’m sure you're aware by now i’m a HUGE planner. Like I LOVE back to school season because planners go on sale! I love to make lists, use planners, create schedules, charts, etc. but crazy enough “planning content” never was an instant DUH for me.
So Why Is It So Important/What Are The Benefits of Planning Content?
------1-------
Planning your content ahead of time means you know what you're going to write about when you sit down to actually create the content. It allows you time to do some digging about whatever you're going to be sharing before you start typing. It means you never sit down at your computer or with your phone/tablet and just stare blankly. It means you can hit the ground running with your ideas at your finger tips.
------2-------
Even if you don’t think people are watching you THEY ARE! We live in a world of technology and someone is always looking at your page/group/blog/pinterest board/IG/Twitter, etc. You have no idea if tomorrow someone is going to wake up and decide to invest in whatever you sell. If you aren’t visible or you aren’t relevant with your content they may pass you by and choose someone else because they don’t know if you’ll be there for them consistently.
------3-------
You can’t be online ALL the time and on ALL platforms all the time. When you create content to share you can schedule times for your content to be shared. There are optimal posting times for different types of content on all social media platforms. Rather than being awake 24 hour a day just to share content you can auto schedule some of your content so that the right people see what you are sharing at the right times.
------4-------
Inspiration is ALWAYS with you. One of my biggest struggles when I first started out eons ago was that I wanted to share whatever I was feeling in the moment. This can be good because it shows how you are a human being and can be relatable. But the downside is that sometimes that “inspiration” doesn’t hit and you are left with nothing to say. When you plan your content you never have to worry about waiting for the inspiration because you will know what you are going to be sharing. When you do by chance have an inspirational moment at that content to your content planner-makes for good reads later!
------5-------
When you have content prepared you can sign off, check out, take a break, and not have to worry about being forgotten. If you are only posting when the mood strikes, when you are inspired, when you have the next big idea you will be chained to your phone/tablet/laptop all day and night. But when you plan your content out you can step away knowing that your voice will still be heard. This is the biggest thing for those who are still a one woman show. For me I still run every aspect of my business by myself, mostly because I'm neurotic and have a hard time letting others help, but sometimes I get burnt out and just need a break. Having content ready to go out means that I can step back without worrying if I’m still there for my clients.
