Raise your hand for me if you’ve ever plopped down in front of your computer to type up content for your social media platforms and simply glared at your screen with a blank mind. Come on, show of hands!! I know I was a victim of these more times than I’d like to admit. I’d read something during the day and be dead set on sharing info about it only to completely forget by the time I sat down to work. Literally, blank mind syndrome would set in as soon as I heard the familiar ding of the computer turning on. Can I just say, if you haven’t already figured it out for yourself, that wasting time like that is detrimental to your business and your mom life! You already have very little time to spare since you are rocking the mom life and the house organizer roles, you simply don’t have time to spend sitting at your computer staring blankly hoping an idea will come to you. I have made my social media planner my absolute BEST friend these days in order to help keep my productivity on point. Sure there are days where I slack at my job but I never drop the ball on sharing my content anymore because I can’t come up with something to share. As i’m sure you noticed i’m a HUGE fan of my Erin Condren Planner for personal organization and home life appointments but for work related things I like to have a planner that I can doodle in and still have plenty of room to write in when new ideas come along. Some of my favorite planners are: Tools For Wisdom Planner - SOooo many fun prints Hello Life Planner - The sayings on these planners are VERY motivating Blue Sky Planner - There are a ton to choose from Bloom Daily Planner - This one I got as a back up one year and loved the layout I usually have 2 planners that I work from regularly. One, my Erin Condren Planner I keep for work deadlines, personal/family life, and for quarterly goal dates. My social media planner is what it sounds like, it’s a planner I use to keep a running list of my social media content ideas, when things need to be posted, when things need to be shared on what platforms, etc. I decided that this was going to be the year where I planned an entire year in advance. I sat down during the first week of January and wrote out all topics I wanted to cover on my platforms. I’ll admit that this was not an easy task but here we are April 24th and I am so glad to have a list to work from. Not having to come up with new topics each week has saved me so much time each week that I have been able to reallocate to other tasks. Now don’t think this is a fool proof plan. YES I have a list of topics for each week of this year but I do go in and adjust the list according to what my audience wants to hear. I have chosen, loosely, what I want to cover each week through the year but if I find my audience wants something more specific I obviously bend to their needs. The beauty of this system is that you can always change things up as you go along. SO the BIG question I’m sure you’re hoping I’d hurry up and answer: HOW DO YOU PLAN OUT YOUR CONTENT? Select Topics You Want To Write About When you are sharing on social media you want to have some type of theme to your business. For me I tend to cover Time Management, Organization, Social Media Sharing, and Mom Life & Business Management. Knowing that these are the topics I focus on teaching through my business I pick one of the and jot down items that I want to cover within those specific categories. Decide What Your Audience Wants To Hear Based on the topics you chose above come up with a breakdown of how you want to share that information. This is where I STRONGLY suggest that you get out a couple sheets of paper and just write and write and write! If you do find yourself coming up with a little bit of a mental block I HIGHLY suggest that you ask your audience what they want to learn. I also try to go back through my e-mails or Facebook messages from those mommas i’ve worked with to find questions they’ve asked me before. I find that if one person has a question on a topic MANY MANY MANY others have the same question. Fill In Your Planner Now that you have a super long list of topics its time to plug them into your planner! Beside each topic you came up with write down a date you want to share that content by. Note that some social media platforms have specific times and dates where your audience will see you more often so be sure to take that into consideration when writing dates into your planner. If you don’t have a planner I suggest you get on that RIGHT NOW! Take a look at the ones I mentioned above, i’ve used them all and have really enjoyed how much space they offer, plus they are SUPER cute! If you found this helpful i’d love for you to share it with someone you KNOW who could use this info as well! xoxo, Lauren P.S. I don’t know about you but I will openly admit that I get knocked out of my groove now and again. I’m flying along, breezing through my work and building lots of content and products, and then all of a sudden BAM I'm flat on my butt in a rut. Its simply part of business, we truck along and then we get a mental block, we daw a blank, and we hit one of those walls they talk about in movies. It happens to all of us now and then but hiding the fact that were in a rut can actually only make the rut last longer. This situation can be insanely frustrating because you KNOW you can be awesome, you know you have plans, you know you have dreams, but for some reason you're just spinning your wheels getting nowhere. So the question I keep getting asked is “How do I get UNSTUCK!” I have 3 Tips to help you get unstuck WALK AWAY This is self explanatory. Put DOWN the work, close the laptop, turn off the tablet, hide the notebook, and walk away. You need to take a break now and then to just do something other than work on your projects or your business building. Now i’m not saying this needs to be for an extended period of time. But you do need to let your mind rest so that you can refresh and come back ready for business. Take YOU time Self care is very important in order to keep yourself sane. Maybe a little mommy pampering, maybe a night out with your SO, take a yoga class, go to the beach, take a hike, maybe you just need to sit in a tub full of bubbles and read a book thats on the “just for fun" list. Whatever your favorite relaxation/mind clearing technique is thats what you need to turn to during this time. When you are able to focus on something other than work it allows your mind to clear and reset. Spend Time With The Kiddos For a long time I would simply suggest you do something that just “makes you happy” but becoming a mom really changes your life and your way of thinking. When you start a business or you are successfully running your business as a mom your underlying motivation is your little balls of joy. The kiddos you gave life to become your reason for SOOOOO many things and sometimes we need to just stop and enjoy their laughter (or eye rolls if they're old enough). When we’re really struggling, we’re at a dead end, we have hit the proverbial brick wall we need to take a step back, breathe, and remember why we started out on this journey in the first place; the kiddos! Taking a brake to spend time with our rug-rats can not only distract our minds from the mental road block we come across but it can recharge us with purpose and drive. Like I said, everyone gets stuck now and again, but you can NOT let it keep you down. Walk away, take some you time, and spend some time with the kiddos to recharge your batteries so that you can hit the ground running when you sit down to work next! I’d love to know if any of you have specific things you do to help you get UNSTUCK. Comment below what works best for you i’d love to hear from you! xoxo, Lauren P.S. Can I just say that before I figured out my “groove” I was ALL over the place. Do you know what I mean? When you sit down to “work” but struggle to actually work. I’d map out work time in my mind, sit down at my laptop with my notebook and pen and it was almost instantly that I remembered I had to go to the bathroom, or I needed to switch the laundry, or I could see the playroom and it was a mess, or … you name it I just KNEW it needed done right then and there. It took me a bit of time but I finally figured out what needed to happen in order to make work happen and be in the right frame of mind to accomplish what I needed to do. This may seem silly or overly simple but every single time I sit down to work I repeat the same things again and again to accomplish my tasks. While I don’t agree with everything in the book, my biz bestie and I were reading The Miracle Morning one month and I did take quite a bit away from the readings. The basis of the book is about creating a morning ritual in order to create success. Elrod suggests you knock out the most important things in the morning so that when you sit down to work you can simply work. Like I said, while I did take quite a bit away from the book I’m still a mom and mornings aren’t an easy time for getting ANYTHING done; well at least not in my household. I refuse to wake up before the baby wakes because I'm usually up working well past the babies bed time. My kiddo is only 14 months old and still nurses and needs one on one mommy time each morning sooo like I said, mornings aren’t our things. BUT I did take a good number of things from the book and apply them to my daily life which translates into my business life. Before I even try to work I do a few things to help make sure I can focus on my tasks
I am a full time stay-at-home mommy so I can’t go into an office and close the door for quiet time. Daddy works long hours and little mr is still quite small but completing these few things prior to sitting down to work really assures that I can focus on the tasks most necessary. Plus knowing that things are clean and tidy helps my mommy brain focus on the tasks at hand and not all the things I need to do when I'm done. Once I sit down to work I do a few more things to actually begin working
I certainly wouldn’t say that my method is iron clad because at any given moment little mr can still crawl up to me and need my attention so I pause and help meet those needs. I am first and foremost his mommy and the only parent home with him a majority of the time. But I am also diligent in my work when I use these processes to accomplish my days work. I HGHLY suggest The Miracle Morning to EVERYONE who is looking to get organized and more focused in their work day. I do caution you not to take it for verbatim because you ARE a MOMMY and your kiddos are your first priority. Adapt the techniques to help suite your own business needs. I’d love to know if any of you have specific things you do to help get your work day going and progressive while the kiddos are present. I’ve gotten this question a few times this week and honestly I hear this questions all the time. It's a really good question, but a tough one to explain. “What happens if my family or friends don’t support my dreams, I don't know that I can do it”. Well here’s the thing, if your family or friends don’t support you they don’t need to be in your immediate life. Ouch right, it’s a hard couple of words to hear but there might be some truth in it. Becoming your own boss takes a LOT of work. You must dedicate time to your business. You need to be able to contact people and build relationships with them. You need to be able to show that what you are doing or selling does work and can benefit others. You need to earn the trust of those you want to work with the most. All of these things take time. These items aren’t going to happen over night, they take time. Your family and friends may not see the worth in your efforts because they aren't immediate like if you’d just get a “9-5”. Sadly, I can personally say that I know what it’s like not to have a partner, family member, and friends support you in your dreams. To constantly hear “what have you done?” “Have you made any sales?” “Oh look they’re hiring, you could apply there” “We should just talk to them about you working”. It’s disheartening. It makes you feel like you're worthless and that all your hard work goes unnoticed completely because you're not working a “9-5” like the rest of society. Many people give up and just give in to what these types of comments because it’s hard to be put you down all the time. Maybe they don't mean to do it maliciously but it still happens and it hurts. You Are NOT Alone!! Many people go through this when they find their passion. You find your calling, you believe in it with all your heart, you see the potential, and EVERY DAY you make an effort to work towards those goals. You are on FIRE and you finally feel great about something. You’ve helped sooooo many people change their lives and yet you still get “Are you done playing on your computer?”. The idea of starting something new can be scary to others around you. When those around you are content in their lives, in their 9-5’s, in working for someone else who gives them orders, in not being able to take vacation unless their boss says its ok, it’s hard to make them see that what you want to do is worth something too. When you start a new venture you are going to find a number of your close friends and family will try to tell you your not going to be successful. It REALLY sucks to hear that but you need to be aware that it can happen. TRULY, that is the #1 piece of advice I can give to any new entrepreneur! Many people are uncomfortable with the unknown and they poo poo on those who do something different from them. When you start a business online many of those people in your close circle will think you are nuts at first. It’s terribly sad to think those that mean the most to you don’t believe in you. Sometimes you just have to bite your tongue, take their words, and just do your thing all the while knowing that someday you WILL show them that they were WRONG. If you are willing to dedicate time, energy, and effort into your passion you CAN achieve whatever you set your mind to. You CAN Make Your Dreams Come True -It Doesn't Matter What Anyone Else Thinks- You MUST believe in yourself in order to make your dreams come true. You ARE important and can accomplish whatever you put your mind to. You WILL succeed if you set goals and you work towards them each day. You WILL start to remove the negativity from your life once you start following your dreams. I can promise you WILL lose friends along your journey, but the thing is- if they were only there for you when your life was tough it just means they enjoyed having friend as miserable as they are. You don't need that kind of negativity in your life and you will begin attracting like minded people once you start building your new life. The reality of the situation is NO, your partner, your family, or your friends may not support you. Is that the worst thing ever? It sure feels like it in the moment. But truthfully the worst thing ever is you not achieving what you know can be a better life for you in the future because you're focused on someone else's opinion. YES it’s going to suck to have those closest to you get down on you, but you CAN rise above it if you know that your dreams can be a reality. You ARE important and I believe in you. If you need someone in your corner I’m here and ready to be your support system. I have a success partner who believes in me and that is enough to keep me moving forward in what I KNOW is my direction in life. Tie yourself to someone positive and ride their coat tails until you feel secure enough to fly on your own. You WILL build the life you deserve if you take a chance on yourself and choose to ignore those around you who are constantly negative. So what happens if your spouse, family, or friends don’t support you? Chase your dreams anyway! Work when they aren't around, build relationships when they are gone at work, work after they’ve gone to bed so that you don’t have to justify your time spent. Create the life you know you deserve and don’t let anyone try and stop you! You are worth more! xoxo, Lauren P.S.
